FIFA 20 is finally out and you’ll all be diving into your mode of choice. Whether that be Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs, or Volta, there are online matches to play. So that you know who you can play with, here’s everything you need to know about whether there is cross platform play in FIFA 20.
Whether There Is Cross Platform Play in FIFA 20
Unfortunately, as of right now, there is no cross platform play in FIFA 20 and, while crossplay is becoming more common in the gaming world, it’s unlikely that we’ll see it come to EA Sports’ soccer title any time soon.
It would probably be more simple in modes like Volta or Online Seasons, but Ultimate Team is a little more complex, and the fact that it’s the series’ most popular mode means it has a lot of impact on what happens in the rest of the game.
Adding cross platform play to FIFA 20’s Ultimate Team mode would be difficult due to the fact that every platform has its own market that acts differently.
The PlayStation 4 market place is significantly larger than the one on Xbox One, so EA Sports would have to work out a way to minimize any impact on the market and the fundamentals of how Ultimate Team works if they were to add cross play.
Therefore, if you are to ever see the feature come to the series, it’s very unlikely that it’ll be before the next game in the series.
Also, when speaking to Eurogamer, FIFA’s creative director Matt Prior said that crossplay would be “a net benefit to users.” It sounds like EA Sports are at least considering it.
