If you’ve already caught up with all the new content that patch 5.2 has to offer in Final Fantasy XIV, you can rest assured knowing that there will always be more to do. Here’s how to get Shadow Catfish in FFXIV.
Getting Shadow Catfish in FFXIV
Shadow Catfish is an ingredient or material that you can only get if you have the Fisher job up to a certain level. If you haven’t been leveling your Fisher, you could always just purchase it off the market board, or off another player.
If you’re planning on getting it the legitimate way, though, here’s what you need to know. First off, your Fisher needs to be at level 27. You’ll also want to purchase the Bass Ball bait or Silver Spoon Lure from any of the field vendors in the three starting cities.
Once you’ve got everything you need, head to the North Shroud area in the Black Shroud. From here, you can head to either the Fallgourd Floats or the Lavender Beds fishing holes to get started. We’ve included a screenshot down below to indicate where the fishing spots are, in case you’re having trouble finding them.
At Fallgourd Floats, you have a chance of getting the Shadow Catfish through the Mooch action. You’ll need to catch a HQ version of the Ala Mhigan Fighting Fish or the Striped Goby, then use Mooch for a chance to catch the Shadow Catfish.
At the Lavender Beds fishing hole, only the Ala Mhigan Fighting Fish will be available to catch. Because this process is so reliant on RNG, chances are that you’ll end up spending a bit of time here.
To recap, here’s how to get the Shadow Catfish in FFXIV:
- Get your Fisher up to level 27.
- Head to Fallgourd Floats or Lavender Beds to catch a HQ version of the Striped Goby or Ala Mhigan Fighting Fish.
- Use the Mooch action for a chance to catch the Shadow Catfish.
