Unlocking the Hell’s Lid Dungeon in FFXIV Patch 4.2

Recommended Videos

Hell’s Lid is a brand new 4-man dungeon introduced in FFXIV patch 4.2, Rise of a New Sun. The dungeon requires you to be at level 70, with an item level of 310 or above.

To unlock Hell’s Lid, you need to be caught up completely with the MSQ, including some of the new story quests that dropped with patch 4.2. After completing the first solo duty instance in 4.2 and arriving at the Ruby Sea, you’ll be able to speak with Soroban before continuing with the next MSQ titled Elation and Trepidation. Soroban will then give you a new side quest titled An Auspicious Encounter. Simply follow the quest steps and you’ll unlock the dungeon naturally.

Hitting an item level of 310 shouldn’t be too difficult if you’ve been regularly farming for tomestones via the Duty Roulette, and buying gear from the vendor at Rhalgr’s Reach. The level 70 dungeons will give you a good number of tomestones via the roulette, and you can get bonus rewards if you have a newcomer in your party. Make sure to gear up at the vendor or you won’t be allowed to enter the dungeon at all.
