How to Leave Messages in Elden Ring
Leaving messages is simple, and it’s something you’ll have access to almost immediately in Elden Ring. It requires the Tarnished’s Wizened Finger, which is looted from the corpse in the tutorial area at the start of the game.
This is unmissable as you can’t enter Limgrave without it. Use the item to leave a message at the spot where you’re standing, and you can choose from various preset phrases to create a message.

- First, equip the Wizened Finger to your pouch (quick menu slot) by opening your inventory, selecting the item, and assigning it to a slot.
- Press Square/X with the Wizened Finger equipped at the location you wish to create a message.
Note that in order to create and leave a message, you must have online play enabled. This is actually a default function, so there’s no need to do anything special — the game will automatically connect to the internet.
