Elden Ring: How to Get to Top of Carian Study Hall

The Lands Between is an open world full of mysteries, and often exploring its many dungeons and locations is a puzzle in itself. That includes two interconnected towers in the Liurnia of the Lakes region; here’s how to get to the top of Carian Study Hall in Elden Ring so that you can access the Divine Tower of Liurnia.

The Carian Study Hall is essentially the gateway to the Divine Tower, with the two connected by a long bridge. If you have ascended up the Study Hall already, though, you will have discovered that while it’s possible to get to climb up a ladder and reach the rafters of the ceilings, it’s impossible to proceed any further beyond that.

As illustrated in the image above, there’s a spiral staircase that you just can’t reach from the rafters. You may have correctly guessed this is the route you need to take to reach the very top, and then access the bridge to the tower from there.

So what gives? How can you reach the spiral staircase? Well, you aren’t supposed to quite yet. Once you have cleared out everything to the staircase, you have done all you can for now. The only way to reach the next area is to invert the Carian Study Hall, so technically you cannot reach the top — instead, you must descend to the bottom (once it is inverted). This is done using the Carian Inverted Statue, which is an item acquired by undertaking Ranni’s questline and progressing it up to the point where you give her the Fingerslayer Blade.

Do you remember the desk at the very start of the Carian Study Hall, opposite the Site of Grace? This is where you place the statue to invert the hall and then descend the spiral staircase to a lift that takes you to the bridge and over to the Divine Tower.

To summarize, then, here’s a breakdown:

  1. Visit the Carian Study Hall and clear out the levels of the Hall which are already available to you. Now leave.

  2. Undertake the Ranni the Witch questline, which can be found in Liurnia atop Ranni’s Rise at Night. More information regarding the Ranni questline is here.

  3. Follow the questline and progress it until the point where you give her the Fingerslayer Blade and receive the Carian Inverted Statue.

  4. Use the Carian Inverted Statue by inserting it in the slot on the desk opposite the Carian Study Hall Site of Grace.

  5. You can now access the elevator which takes you down to the bridge and eventually to the Divine Tower of Liurnia.

If you’re wondering how to beat the Ranni questline, Twinfinite has written a detailed guide which you can check out here. The guide is actually concerned with answering how to get the Moonlight Sword, but obtaining the Carian Inverted Statue and visiting the Carian Study Hall is all part of the same quest.

That should give you everything you need to know about how to get to the top of Carian Study Hall in Elden Ring so that you can access the Divine Tower of Liurnia. For more useful tips and guides on the game, search Twinfinite.
