Ashes of War are hidden items that can be found throughout the map, so keep your eyes peeled as you explore. They can also be obtained by beating certain bosses or killing Teardrop Scarabs, which are Elden Ring’s version of Crystal Lizards from Dark Souls.

What Ashes of War Do

These items can be combined with equipment at Sites of Grace to grant weapons or shields the ability to perform special attacks or magic. Use these unique moves by pressing L2/LT while the enchanted item is equipped.

It’s important to note that Ashes of War aren’t actually consumed when added to a weapon. They can be swapped in and out at any Site of Grace, which allows you to mix and match abilities with new/different weapons and armor that you find along the way.

Ashes of War also have another effect — they increase certain stats while decreasing others. For example, some Ashes of War can increase dexterity while decreasing strength and base damage, or vice versa.
