How to Get the True Ending in Dragon Quest XI
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age brings the legendary JRPG series back once again, with a full English voice cast and a number of other new additions. It’s the first mainline game the west has gotten in the series, since Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies on Nintendo DS in 2010. The latest entry casts you as a young man in a quiet village, who finds out he’s the legendary Luminary, a hero prophesied to defeat the Dark One. In traditional Dragon Quest fashion, Dragon Quest XI has a huge amount of content to dig into, with a lengthy 70-hour main story, a ton of different sidequests, and plenty of little things to see and do. Once you see those credits roll things aren’t over, however, as Dragon Quest XI has a true ending for players to work toward.
If you’ve played other Dragon Quest games this should come as no surprise, as most games in the series have some sort of true ending. With Dragon Quest XI, it’s going to take a bit of work to get to the full ending. First off, beat the game and watch the credits, where it will tell you “to be continued.” After this save your game, ideally on a new save slot, then head back to the menu and reload that save (it will have a star on it). Once your save is reloaded the story will continue on, after the first ending.
For the most part, getting to the True Ending isn’t too complicated. Most of the time, the game will give you markers and objectives to follow, although things get significantly more difficult, so you may need to grind a bit. At one point, the story will task you with tracking down three different Yggdrasil seedlings. For this part first head to Angri-La and interact with the seedling right at the entrance. The other two can be found at two of the Whale Way Stations that you can land at while flying on Cetacia. At this point it’s best to just land at every spot on the map while flying, as there’s treasure to be found on top of the seedlings.
If you’re just following the critical path after the first credits, you’re looking at roughly 15-20 more hours. However, there are a ton more sidequests and optional things added on at this point, that can extend that playtime even further.
That’s all you need to know about getting the true ending of Dragon Quest XI. For even more tips, tricks, and guides on the game, make sure to search Twinfinite or take a look at our extensive wiki.
