Is There Splitscreen Local Co-Op Multiplayer in Dragon Quest XI?
Dragon Quest XI is finally here and players can dive into the latest and greatest from the long-running Dragon Quest series. To the uninitiated, Dragon Quest XI is a traditional, old-school style JRPG where you play as a young boy who, upon attempting to complete a traditional coming of age test, discovers something important about his true nature, and as a result comes an important target to forces both good and evil.
While most JRPGs tend to be single-player affairs, some might be wondering if there is some kind of split-screen local co-op multiplayer option in Dragon Quest XI. It’s not completely unheard of. Final Fantasy XV has the comrades add-on which effectively added a co-op multiplayer mode to the game. Child of Light, although not a JRPG by the strict definition of the game, also featured a bit of light local co-op gameplay. Sadly though, that is more of the exception to the rule. Most JRPGs tend to be single-player affairs, especially traditional ones.
Unfortunately, there is no splitscreen local co-op multiplayer in Dragon Quest XI. The game is 110% a single-player title that has you flying solo from start, to finish, with no help from any outsiders either locally, or online.
Sorry we couldn’t have had better news on this front, but don’t fret too much. As long as you’re a fan of JRPGs and/or the Dragon Quest series, you should find plenty to love and keep you occupied in this game. The world is inviting, charming and filled to the brim with quests to complete and sights to see.
