Doom is well-know in the gaming world as one of the best first-person shooter franchises of all time. However, Doom Eternal lets you change up your point of view with some advanced tweaking of game files. Here’s how to play Doom Eternal in third-person.
How to Play Doom Eternal in Third-Person
First, it’s important to note that this can’t be done without third-party software. This application that will help you change the view to third-person in Doom Eternal is known as Cheat Engine.
Just remember, we’re not suggesting that you do this since messing around with game files can render your install unplayable. Twinfinite claims no responsibility if your install or PC are negatively impacted. We just want you to know the potential consequences of trying this out.
Getting Cheat Tables
Once you get Cheat Engine set up, then you’ll be ready to start making changes to Doom Eternal. Follow this link to FearLess Revolution that brings you to the user SunBeam’s post that has all the cheat tables (the .CT file) you’ll need to get third-person mode working.
You’ll need to run the .CT file using the Cheat Engine that you installed previously. The latest version (1.4) of the table that has been released by SunBeam should work for both Steam and Bethesda.net launchers.
Switching Into Third-Person
Once you get the table downloaded, then you’ll want to change the cvar pm_thirdPerson from 0 to 1. This will move the camera from the traditional first-person view you’re familiar with in Doom to a third-person view.
Time needed: 15 minutes
Here’s a quick summary on how to play Doom Eternal in third-person:
- Install Cheat Engine
This is the program that can read the cheat table you’ll need.
- Download the Cheat Table
Having access to this table will let you change values in the game files.
- Modify the thirdPerson cvar
Change the cvar pm_thirdPerson from 0 to 1. This changes the camera location.
