Does King Viserys Have a Dragon in House of the Dragon?

No, King Viserys does not have a dragon in House of the Dragon, though at one point he did. Like many Targaryens, Viserys was also a dragonrider, just a few years before he named Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne.

When King Viserys was a dragonrider, he rode on the back of Balerion, the Black Dread; in fact, Viserys was the very last Targaryen to ever have control over Balerion in House of the Dragon, before Balerion died of old age.

Out of all the dragons, Balerion is by far the most significant given that he was the largest and was ridden by Aegon the Conqueror. Alongside Vhagar and Meraxes, Balerion and Aegon were instrumental in uniting the kingdoms of Westeros.

So, now you understand why King Viserys does not have a dragon in House of the Dragon. What isn’t clear is why Viserys never chose another, despite dragons being able to have more than one rider. Since Balerion is dead, why not check out who the biggest dragon is now? Perhaps the identity of Aegon’s wife would interest you more.
