Is There Splitscreen Local Co-Op Multiplayer in Division 2? Answered
Ubisoft’s The Division 2 sees the action move away from New York City, instead focusing on a torn apart version of Washington D.C. Much of what you’ll be doing will be similar, but you might be wondering if there is splitscreen local co-op multiplayer in Division 2. Here’s everything you need to know.
With Division 2 being a ‘games as a service’ multiplayer title that sees you head out into a shared world alone or with friends, it’d be cool to do so from the comfort of your own couch. After all, so much of the game is geared around having a partner joining you on missions.
However, unfortunately, there is no splitscreen local co-op multiplayer in Division 2. When it comes to multiplayer, you’ll have to play online, on separate systems. Meeting up in an online game is pretty simple, but it’s not quite the same as splitscreen.
When the first Division game released, Ubisoft explained why it wasn’t included, with Magnus Jansen, creative director at Massive Studios, saying, “it’s such a constantly ongoing experience, that when tying you to someone else, splitscreen just makes it messy.”
Since The Division 2 is generally the same in structure and style, the same thinking probably applies. Ubisoft seems to simply think that splitscreen local co-op multiplayer wouldn’t work very well in the game, no matter how much you want it.
Of course, if that ever changes and they announce that they plan to add it into the game in the future, we’ll be sure to update you here. I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath, though.
That’s everything you need to know about if there is splitscreen local co-op multiplayer in Division 2. For more tips and tricks on surviving Washington D.C and the Dark Zone, be sure to check our Division 2 wiki guide.
