Disco Elysium: How to Pass Time

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Time in Disco Elysium doesn’t work as it does in real-life. It doesn’t just pass idly by whether you’re working, eating, or sleeping. It only moves during certain actions in the game. Sometimes you’ll want time to pass quickly so you can move onto something else. Here’s how to pass time in Disco Elysium.

Passing Time in Disco Elysium

Talking to NPCs

As noted above, time won’t just pass if you’re simply exploring the world of Disco Elysium or are just standing about. To make the clock tick those minutes away in Disco Elysium, you need to talk to people.

You’ll often find plenty of NPCs to talk to throughout the day, normally until about 21:00 when some will start to head inside to go to bed. Each topic you haven’t spoken to an NPC about will normally pass a minute of time on the clock.

Certain characters like Joyce or the Dicemaker have lots of dialog options that you can use to quickly pass time in Disco Elysium.

Reading Books

Another option is to go and purchase books as you explore the world. Reading one of these will help pass the time in the game and you can buy a bunch of them from the bookstore.

Benches

Sitting on benches is another excellent way to help pass the time. Whenever you spot one, simply sit on it and you’ll be able to pass a little bit of time this way.

Reading Case Files

Arguably the best way to pass time fast in Disco Elysium is to simply read the case files in your ledger. Each case file takes 30 minutes of in-game time to read, making it the perfect way to pass time until you can talk to another specific NPC or whatever your quest may entail.

How to Pass Time With Kim in Disco Elysium

Once Kim joins you for your adventure, simply talking to NPCs won’t always do the trick. In these instances, reading case files or books are your best bet.

Alternatively, you can also play a board game with him. It can be bought from the bookstore, which we advise you visit fairly frequently to stock up on more books to help you pass the time.
