How to Farm the Out of Bounds in Destiny 2

Bungie via Twinfinite

The Out of Bounds submachine gun is an incredibly easy weapon to obtain. It is first and foremost a Crucible weapon, which means it drops in two places. The first place it can drop is as an end-of-match reward for any Crucible playlist, which includes Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. This is where you are going to earn most of your drops, which are fairly frequent.

The second place is from Lord Shaxx, the Crucible vendor. Each time you rank up with him, you will get a free legendary engram containing Crucible gear. Considering that gaining ranks in the Crucible is fairly easy, this is yet another consistent source for drops.

Something important to consider is that when you reset your rank after maxing it out, all Crucible weapon drops will have a chance of having two perks in columns three and four. This is incredibly important as the Out of Bounds, like all playlist weapons, has a massive perk pool and it can be hard to get exactly the roll you want. When you reset your rank twice, you are guaranteed to get double perks in columns three and four. This means you will want to save your crucible engrams until you have reset your rank twice, so that you have much higher quality drops when you use them!

Out of Bounds Perk Pool

Column One

  • Arrowhead Brake
  • Chambered Compensator
  • Corkscrew Rifling
  • Extended Barrel
  • Fluted Barrel
  • Full Bore
  • Hammer Forged Rifling
  • Polygonal Rifling
  • Smallbore

The Out of Bounds has two key strengths to consider when picking out a barrel perk: its high Handling and near perfect recoil stat of 95. These stats need little improvement, leaving Range and Stability to be adjusted accordingly. The two best options for barrel perks would be Corkscrew Rifling and Smallbore. Corkscrew Rifling gives a +5 to Range, Stability, and Handling.

While the weapon doesn’t necessarily need more handling, Corkscrew Rifling gives the greatest increase to the stat totals of the weapon, making it feel better all round. Smallbore gives a +7 to Range and Stability, which means it gives one less point than Corkscrew Rifling but focuses in on what the Out of Bounds needs most.

Column Two

  • Extended Mag
  • Alloy Magazine
  • Appended Mag
  • Armor Piercing Rounds
  • High Caliber Rounds
  • Ricochet Rounds
  • Flared Magwell
  • Light Mag

If you’re looking for a god roll for PvP, there are two clear winners. High Caliber Rounds, while not as good as to be, remains a good option as it adds extra flinch when firing at opponents as well as +5 to range as well. The other option is Ricochet Rounds, which adds +5 to Range as well as +10 to stability, patching up the weapon’s weak points and making it feel even nicer to use.

For PvE, Flared Magwell is the clear option. It increases the reload speed of the weapon by +15, over 50%, as well as the stability by +5. This takes the weapon from having a slower feeling reload speed to something much quicker and snappier, meaning you can get back to clearing waves of adds much faster.

Column Three

  • Dynamic Sway Reduction
  • Hip-fire Grip
  • Threat Detector
  • Grave Robber
  • Moving Target
  • Subsistence
  • Demolitionist
  • Perpetual Motion
  • Tunnel Vision
  • Heating Up
  • Killing Wind
  • Pulse Monitor

There are a lot of options to choose from in column three, and most of them range from good to fantastic. For PvP, there are so many good options that the choice becomes a matter of preference. Dynamic Sway Reduction increases stability and accuracy as you continue to fire, pairing excellently with the weapon’s origin trait Omolon Fluid Dynamics, which gives increased stability and reload speed for the top half of the magazine. Threat Detector provides a massive stat boost to stability and reload speed when near enemies, which is a common occurrence for the archetype in all activities.

Moving Target provides better accuracy and movement speed when aiming down sights. Perpetual Motion provides stat boosts to Stability, Handling, and Reload for staying on the move, which pairs up nicely with the movement speed buff the Lightweight archetype grants. Tunnel Vision provides a big boost to accuracy when reloading after a kill, and is a good option to pair with Kill Clip in column 4. Killing Wind provides a massive boost to Range, Handling, and Mobility after getting a kill, and gives the weapon the potential to provide maximum range when combined with Rangefinder in column 4.

With so many options to choose from, it can be hard to pick a favorite. The recommended perks for the Out of Bounds would be Perpetual Motion and Killing Wind, as not only are their buffs powerful but also easy to keep up at all times, whereas some of the other perks are too stringent.

For PvE, there are three good choices: Grave Robber, Subsistence, and Demolitionist. Grave Robber and Demolitionist are good for melee and grenade builds respectively, while Subsistence reloads a portion of the magazine on kill. Your preferred perk depends on your PvE playstyle, with Subsistence and Demolitionist being a bit more useful than Grave Robber.

Column Four

  • Kill Clip
  • Surrounded
  • Golden Tricorn
  • Swashbuckler
  • Adrenaline Junkie
  • Tap the Trigger
  • Under-Over
  • Rangefinder
  • Gutshot Straight
  • Harmony
  • Fragile Focus
  • Well Rounded

Thankfully, or unluckily depending on your perspective, Column Four has much clearer best in slot options for both PvP and PvE. For PvP, Kill Clip and Rangefinder are easily the best options. Kill Clip increases weapon damage by 33% when reloading after a kill, increasing the weapon’s overall time-to-kill and adding forgiveness should you miss a few headshots. Rangefinder increased the weapon’s zoom value by 1, which sounds insignificant but actually increases the weapon’s range by a large margin. Either option is an excellent choice in PvP, with Kill Clip being better for 6v6 activities and Rangefinder being better for 3v3 activities.

For PvE, there are three clear choices as well. Surrounded gives a 30% damage buff when near three or more enemies and can be paired with the Surrounded Spec mod for even more damage. Swashbuckler and Adrenaline Junkie give a 33% damage boost when getting a melee or grenade kill respectively and are great with builds around said abilities.
