How to Get to Max Power (Light) Level Easily in Destiny 2

Getting to max Power (what Destiny 2 calls Light) is no small task. You can’t just walk around killing random aliens and hope that it will happen (well you can, but it will take a very long time). It requires hard work and dedication, and a bunch of hours, but you can make your life a bit easier by following some basic tips.

At first, you’ll have to fight to get to 260, which is below the 300 max light. This is because most of the basic means cap out at around there and then higher growth is extremely rare. Here are some tips to get to 260 Power/Light.

Beat the Story – You’ll obtain some solid rewards simply by playing through the story which includes a few legendary and exotic pieces of armor and weaponry. These are always at a higher power level than you are currently, so tied with your constant EXP gains this is not a bad start. Also, progressing through Destiny 2’s story unlocks more activities and missions for you and your Fireteam to embark upon. You’ll want to gain access to as much content as possible, as this will ensure that you always have something to do, and you won’t have to deal with the monotony of doing the same one activity over, and over, and over.

Heroic Public Events Are Your Friends – You will always get some form of loot for doing a Public Event, even if you fail, and it will always contribute to you getting stronger. However, doing Heroic versions grants more, and better loot. Failing a Heroic is much better than failing a standard one as you can still get gear and not just Tokens.

Crucible – The Crucible has some solid drops when it comes to loot. If you’re talented at PvP, go show off for all the other Guardians out there to see and collect some gear while you’re at it (including the chance at exotic drops).

Adventures and Lost Sectors – These two activities will always provide at least one piece of gear, and it will almost always be better than what you already have. You don’t necessarily have to keep everything you find, but you can at least infuse, or scrap them for weapon parts so you can upgrade one of the vendors and get some free legendaries.

How to Get to Max Power (Light) Level Easily in Destiny 2

Speaking of Vendors – World NPCs (like Failsafe and Devrim Kay), Shaxx, and the Gunsmith, can be leveled up by collecting world-specific tokens, or specific resources in Destiny 2. After reaching a new level, you will get a couple of legendaries for your efforts, and they’re always of high Power. Since you’re going to be grinding away anyway, make sure to check in with these individuals every now and then so you can get your rewards. Every little bit helps.

It Doesn’t Matter What You Have Equipped – Do not head back to the Farm every time you get a new engram in Destiny 2. You don’t have to constantly decrypt and equip your best gear, that will just make everything take much longer. Destiny 2 actually works to give you the highest possible Power you can get, whether you have your best gear equipped or not. Now you won’t always have an improvement (sometimes it will be just under, or equal), but you should see your score steadily moving upwards.

Once you hit 260, things change up a bit. You’re going to want to start looking at your weekly quests in order to get that final push.

Flashpoints – These are weekly quests that task the player with going to a specific planet and completing a bunch of public events. You’ll earn “powerful gear” as a reward, which are pieces that can drop at above 260.

Call to Arms – Like Flashpoints, these are weekly. However, these are purely Crucible focused.

Raid – Finally, the raid will provide some of the best loot Destiny 2 has to offer, and at high Power (Light). Sure, you won’t be able to do the raid on day one (because it won’t be available), but for those who don’t have as much time to grind before it drops, at least you know you’ll see a huge jump up once you complete it.

Infusion Sometimes Provides Extra Power – Sometimes, when you’re infusing a legendary or exotic in Destiny 2, you’ll get a bit of a bonus. When you’re making a smaller jump, the Bungie deities will smile down on you and provide an extra one or two points since you went through all that effort. This can also happen with large jumps, but I’ve noticed it more with small jumps. Either way, you should always be infusing into your favorite pieces of gear and getting rid of what you know you’ll never use. This helps your guardian reach max power faster, so hop to it.
