How to Beat the Angels in Dark Souls III: The Ringed City

Recommended Videos

One of the toughest new foes to enter the fray in Dark Souls III’s newest expansion The Ringed City are the angels. These floating beasts cannot be damaged by normal means and if they see you, it’s more than likely you are either taking damage or are dead. This is due to their attacks having no real cooldown, allowing these angels to simply spam their ranged attacks until you’re dead. However, you can stop these monsters via untraditional means, as each angel is linked to a parasitic version of themselves hidden in the level. These creatures can be damaged and if you kill one the corresponding angel will instantly die permanently, even if you reset the world.

The first one you come across will be after the great fall, so continue through the level until you reach a courtyard right after the two Lothric Knights are killed. From here, head down the slope until you reach an opening where the first host is chilling just on the other side of the path by a wall. Be careful, because you can still get hit by the angel crossing, so don’t let off the sprint button until you reach the other side where it’s safe. Run up to it and kill it so the angel in this area vanishes, allowing you to explore at a less frantic pace.

Once you jump off the cliff and plunge down into the second section of this area you will see an angel hovering over what can only be described as a wasteland. This is one of the hardest angels to put down, as the area has a rather alarming lack of cover meaning the angel can easily pin you down. From the second bonfire, run over the small hill and then take cover in the house on your right. Turn to your right and run against the wall until you reach a doorway to a covered area and wait for the Thralls to follow you.

If the angel hasn’t killed the Thralls, quickly slay them and then approach the hole in the wall that faces the shack on the cliff. The path is hidden behind this area via a massive root just along the cliffside, meaning you are going to need to take a leap of faith. Run out and zigzag back and forth so this monster never gets a shot on you and then jump down on the large root. This may take a few times, so don’t beat yourself up if you miss as crossing this area can be very difficult and is one of the most difficult sections in The Ringed City. Follow along the root until you reach the host and kill it to slay the angel in the wasteland.

Finally, the last of the angels can be found hovering over the poisonous swamp that is just up ahead. Once you reach this location go left and hug the wall so the energy bolts can’t skewer you alive. Quickly cross the swamp and then head up the large root that is located at the back right of the swamp. Run up this until you are prompted to jump down onto another root. You’ll eventually reach a cliff side with three Thralls and a pyromancer waiting for you, so either kill or ignore them. Turn and jump on the roof directly to your right and make your way to the root on the far end. Following this last root will lead you to the host, where you can finally kill it and put the last of the angels to rest.

And that’s all you need to know to bea the angels and their hosts in Dark Souls III: The Ringed City. For more guides, walkthroughs, and tips make sure to visit our Dark Souls III: The Ringed City wiki.
