The long-awaited free-to-play Call of Duty battle royale mode, Warzone, is finally out. So that you’re prepared, here’s everything you need to know about whether you need PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold to play Call of Duty Warzone.

You don’t actually need Modern Warfare to play Warzone, with a standalone version being available on your platform’s store. However, you need PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold to play most online games.

Do You Need PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold to Play Call of Duty Warzone?

The answer isn’t as simple as a yes or no, unfortunately. If you’re playing on Xbox One, you will need to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold to play Warzone. You can either pay for that on its own or get it as part of Game Pass Ultimate.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be able to jump into Warzone, like you would any other multiplayer game.

If you’re playing on PlayStation 4 though, the news is much better. While playing Modern Warfare’s main multiplayer modes requires a PS Plus subscription, Warzone does not because it is a free-to-play game.

You’ll just be able to jump straight into the mode or the standalone game right away, without having to pay the extra fee.

Why there’s a difference, we don’t know, but it does make Warzone a more attractive prospect to PlayStation 4 players. It might be a decision on the platform side, so I wouldn’t expect it to change anytime soon.

That’s everything you need to know about whether you need PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold to play Call of Duty Warzone. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
