The Proving Grounds are a part of Borderlands 3’s multiplayer endgame content and will be immediately familiar to anyone that has run a horde mode.

You can queue for the Proving Grounds through the Social menu of the game. Simply begin matchmaking and you will be taken to a random proving ground once you have been grouped with an appropriate party.

You will have 30 minutes to progress through three waves of enemies of increasing difficulty, followed by a climactic boss encounter. Throughout which, you will earn a metric butt-ton of loot and experience.

There are bonus conditions you can complete to earn better loot, like not having any party members die or completing the run in a shorter amount of time.

There are currently six Proving Grounds in the game, with Gearbox promising more to come in future updates.

Note that by queuing for Proving Grounds, you cannot select which one you will run. To actually unlock each specific area, you must complete the main storyline.

Once you have completed the campaign, you will need to seek out the beacon associated with each Proving Ground. They are pretty obvious, with an exclamation mark floating over each just like a quest giver would have.

Finding a beacon will allow you to travel to the associated Trial, which you can travel to from the Sanctuary. The location of each beacon can be found below.

Trial of
Cunning
Pandora In the Splinterlands, roughly
the center of the map.
Trial of
Survival

Devil’s Razor.
Trial of
Instinct
