Unlocking the 3rd and 4th Weapon Slots in Borderlands 3

In Borderlands 3, you start the game by only being able to equip two guns at once. Considering the game has billions with a B possible weapon combinations, that’s not that many.

While you’ll never be able to equip a billion guns at once, you can increase your maximum weapon slot capacity to four at least.

In order to unlock more, you need to play through the story and it will automatically be unlocked for you as a reward for completing certain missions. There’s no other way to get them, so you’ll just have to be patient.

The third weapon slot will be unlocked while you’re on Promethea after completing the Taking Flight mission, probably around level seven or eight.

The fourth weapon slot will be unlocked once you reach Eden-6, probably somewhere around level 20 depending on how fast you’re burning through.

You can switch between all of your weapons by pressing Triangle on PS4 and Y on Xbox One, and for PC users you can use the scroll wheel or the 1-4 buttons.

How to Unlock More Weapon Slots:

  1. Third Weapon Slot

Received through the main campaign on Pandora, around level 7.

  2. Fourth Weapon Slot

Received through the main campaign on Eden-6, around level 20.

Once you get all four unlocked, you’ll probably want to make sure that you have all different types of weapons that are effective at various ranges and/or different elemental combinations to ensure that you’re well-equipped for any fight.

Considering all guns within the same archetype in Borderlands 3 use the same ammo (such as SMG), it doesn’t pay to carry more than one of the same weapon type, otherwise you’ll be burning through ammo way too fast.

That’s all you need to know for how to unlock more weapon slots in Borderlands 3 for PlayStaton 4, Xbox One and PC.
