Best PS4 Kids Games of September 2018
Brawlout
It’s not easy to find fighting games that could also be considered one of the best PS4 kids games as they are usually rife with extreme violence. However it’s not impossible. After spending some time over on Steam and Switch, cutting its teeth, Brawlout has expanded the, well, Brawl over to PlayStation 4 as well.
Unlike other fighters which can be over the top with gratuitous violence, Brawlout keeps the combat whimsical and light. Playable characters include a luchador-like frog and a brawling Ape, along with a cast of other anthropomoric characters and heroes from popular indie games such as Yooka-Laylee, Guacamelee, and Hyper Light Drifter.
Gameplay wise, Brawlout is very reminiscent of Super Smash Brothers. You play from a 2D perspective, and the object is to damage your opponent enough so that you can knock them off the stage. You can block, dodge roll, and use special abilities to accomplish that goal.
If anything, Brawlout has received criticism for being too similar to Super Smash Brothers, but not as good. However, it still has its own unique charm, and unless you own a Switch and plan on picking up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later this year, there aren’t a lot of games quite like it on PlayStation 4 that even exist, let alone are also accessible to young children. So with that said, definitely give Brawlout a shot if you’re looking for a fighting game that won’t put you off with extreme violence or crude language, which is why, despite some flaws, it still cracks our list of the best PS4 kids games for September 2018.

Scribblenauts Mega Pack
While the Scribblenauts series doesn’t have the clout it once had when it broke out on the Nintendo DS, it still has its moments where it reminds us why we loved it way back when. The Scribblenauts Mega Pack seeks to include both old-school Scribblenauts gameplay, with something that was a little off-beat and different.
The Mega Pack contains two games: Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, both of which are great games that should keep a younger gamer, or someone looking for something lighthearted to play, occupied for many hours.
To the unfamiliar, Scribblenauts is a game where you can enter in words and names and have them, like magic, appear in-game for you to use. You’ll come across a wide variety of puzzles in both of the games included in the Mega Pack, and you’ll need to get creative about what you need to solve them, and then summon them into the game.
In Unlimited, you experience a more traditional story that follows the main character Maxwell, and explore a world filled with puzzles and themed areas. In DC Comics Adventure, the puzzles are all themed around D.C. Universe superheroes. Almost anyone you can think of is in the game, and you’ll need to scribble down the names of the ones you need to help you clear certain puzzles based around their super power.
