The first core Pokemon games for Switch have just been confirmed. Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee (which we’ll refer to as the Let’s Go games) are remakes of sorts of the classic Pokemon Yellow, and feature co-op play and connection to your Pokemon GO account. Pokemon games have usually been handheld exclusives games, and while the Switch can be handheld when you want it to be, you might be wondering if you will be able to play the games on the incredibly popular 3DS.

If you were hoping that the answer would be yes, we have some bad news for you. When the game launches this fall, it will only be available for the Switch. Due to the complete visual and technological overhaul, it wouldn’t work on the 3DS in its current form. Maybe it’ll be downgraded to work on the 3DS sometime in the future, to take advantage of the system’s gigantic player base, but I wouldn’t hold out for that.
