Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Get Fishing Rod

Animal Crossing New Horizons is finally out and it’s time to explore all the new additions to the series. Some things never change, though, and catching fish is back. Here’s how to get a fishing rod in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

As you no doubt already know (but just in case you don’t), catching fish is a most excellent way to earn some cold hard bells.

How to Get a Fishing Rod in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Crafting One

The first kind you’re going to get your hands on by making it is a Flimsy Fishing Rod.

This one’s going to obviously be the worst of them all, as it’s only meant to get you started and catching fish quickly in the beginning of the game.

Its durability will be no match to the others, but it’s also easiest to craft. You’re only going to need five tree branches. These can be obtained by going around your island and shaking trees by walking over to them and pressing A.

Once you have what you need, head over to any workbench. Could be yours or could be Nook’s DIY one.

From there, select the flimsy ol’ fishing pole from the list of recipes and craft it! You’re ready to start catchin’ some fresh money!

Buying One

Another way to get one is by buying it! Tired of crafting them? Head over to Timmy in Resident Services.

There, you’ll be able to buy it among other tools in their cabinet for 400 Bells.

Upgrading Your Fishing Rod

Obviously as I mentioned before, “flimsy” is the first level of all the tools you can make. So you’re going to be able to craft some upgrades.

Here are each of the upgrades you can get for your pole, and how to get them.

When it comes to catching fish, you can sell them for some great bells. It’s a viable way to make money, and it’s also imperative for getting Nook Miles as a lot of those challenges ask you to fish.
