Tony Hawk gets a makeover.

It was announced earlier this year that Activision would be releasing a new Tony Hawk game. The title would be going back to the old school Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games we loved on the PlayStation and would be called Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 will go back to basics and will be more like the original games rather than the big, open world ones such as Tony Hawk’s Underground and Project 8. We’re curious to see if the new game can recapture the nostalgia many gamers will have for the series, but at the same time, we can’t help but be cautious. After Activision released some screenshots of the game, a lot of fans complained the game looked pretty ugly. Perhaps the idea was to try and emulate the graphical style of the original games but lets be honest, those games are remembered for their fun skate mechanics rather than their beautiful graphics.

It now seems that less than two months before the game is set to be released, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has had a graphical overhaul and now has a more cel-shaded art style. Below you can see how the game originally looked:

And here is the new style:

The new art style is certainly more colorful and vibrant, but will it be enough to impress the gamers who didn’t care for the original style? Was this change in style always intended, or is it a response to the critics? Only time will tell.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is due to be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 29th. It will then be released over a month later on November 10th for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
