Tatsumi Kimishima Has Been Named as Nintendo’s New President

Nintendo's new president is revealed.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Following the unfortunate passing of former president of Nintendo Satoru Iwata in July, the company has been working to appoint a successor to the position, with Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda taking central roles during the interim. Today the gaming giant has revealed that Nintendo stalwart Tatsumi Kimishima (seen with Iwata above) will now serve as their fifth president, beginning his tenure officially as of Sept. 16.

Kimishima has been a major part of Nintendo for the last 15 years, having served such roles as Representative Director of The Pokémon Company, Director and Chairman of Nintendo of America (until Reggie Fils-Aime succeeded him in 2006), and his current position of Managing Director for the Corporate Analysis and Administration Division. It seems he prefers the business end of things while Iwata before him preferred to be on the developmental side of the company.

Other tweaks and changes have been made to Nintendo’s higher-up positions as well, placing Miyamoto and Takeda in the new positions of Creative Fellow and Technology Fellow respectively, where “Fellow” means “an individual selected from among the Representative Directors who has advanced knowledge and extensive practice, and holds the role of providing advice and guidance regarding organizational operations in a specialized area.” Basically, they’ve got a lot of know-how and can-do.
