Training your amiibo in Super Smash Bros. for WiiU (and now 3DS) has always been fun. It’s a side activity whose closes rival in the gaming market is probably that of leveling Skylanders. The difference with amiibo is that they’ll actually be able to engage in combat themselves, offering a helping hand or challenging opponent to Super Smash Bros. players. Now there’s a competition kicking off in Japan which will put the best amiibo figures in the country and probably the world through their paces.
Players in Japan will be able to take their amiibo along to any of the three events to battle against other amiibo for the crown of “strongest amiibo” If you’re interested in going along to this then you’ll need to know where it’s going on so here’s the dates.
- March 14 (11:00, 13:00, 15:00) – Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Umeda 2F game department (Osaka)
- March 15 (13:30, 14:30, 15:30) – Toys R Us Ichikawa store (Chiba Prefecture)
- March 15 (13:00, 15:00) – Wonder Goo Moriya store game department (Ibaraki Prefecture)
There are also going to be tournaments held on March 21 and also at later times. Anyone who wants to enter these competitions can do so for free, although it looks as though there’ll be no major prizes other than bragging rights that you’ve got the best amiibo.
Battles will be held on a fixed stage with items so that the game will be fair and parameters won’t change between the battles in this tournament of tournaments.
This isn’t like Highlander though. You’re not going to engage in battle only to find your precious Captain Falcon amiibo beheaded to give more power to an opponent. Then again, Fox McCloud and Duncan McCleod would be an amazing match up, let’s be honest.
Would you get involved in a tournament like this if it were to be held in Europe or America? Do you think you’ve got an amiibo trained up with the capability to take on all opponents? Let us know in the comments box below.
