A new post on PlayStation Blog has announced that the first two Star Wars trilogies have been released digitally on the PlayStation Store today.

The classic film collections have become available digitally for the first time today in the UK and Australia. The post also mentions that Star Wars fans in the US and other territories shouldn’t have to wait long as the digital releases should be reaching your PlayStation stores in the coming weeks.

You’re not just getting any old copy of the films either, you’ll be able to purchase the special editions of Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

The Star Wars digital collection is available to buy from the PlayStation Store for either £69.99 / AU $124.99 for the whole set, or alternatively if you’d rather skip the somewhat worse second trilogy, you can pick up the individual films from only £9.99/ AU $19.99. Unfortunately Sony have yet to announce the pricing for the US release of the films, but be sure to check back with us for the news as soon as it breaks.

The release of the films ties in quite nicely with all the other Star Wars releases coming this year. Episode VII: The Force Awakens, is expected to hit cinemas 18th December 2015, and it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw Star Wars: Battlefront release a few weeks before to really get the force behind the film release… (Pun most definitely intended)

What’s your opinion on the digital release of the Star Wars films? Will you be enjoying a Star Wars film marathon soon, or would you rather get the Blu Ray set? Let us know in the comments below.
