We’ve heard rumblings of a Final Fantasy XII remaster for a while, but a recent announcement of Prima Games’ new strategy guides may be even more of a hint. Back in December Shinji Hashimoto hinted that more re-releases may be on the way following the Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster. Then last month Twitter users who attended a Distant Worlds concert in Pittsburgh, started spreading the word that Arnie Roth, the composer of Distant Worlds, mentioned what he said to be a “remake” of Final Fantasy XII being in the works.
Roth later apologized for the announcement with the following letter,
Dear friends,
In response to comments posted by fans, I want to rectify a statement made from the stage Saturday night at our Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy concert in Pittsburgh.
Following conversations with composer Hitoshi Sakimoto regarding new concert arrangements of music from Final Fantasy XII, regrettably, the term ‘remake’ was used in error during one of the announcements that took place from the stage during the concert.
We sincerely regret any confusion this has caused.
Arnie Roth
Producer and Music Director
Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy
Square Enix has been pretty quiet on the subject since, but the early reveal of Primas’ guides may be an indication of something to come. Prima released a first look showing off a set of fancy new editions of the Final Fantasy X and X-2 collectors guides. Along with those the set also includes an updated and revised guide of Final Fantasy XII, which have screenshots updated from the PS2 version and are captured in 720p.
Although Square Enix hasn’t officially announced a remaster for XII, it seems strange that Prima would announce this guide along with the others. The boxed set for the guides has officially gone up for pre-order on Amazon, with a release date listed as November 3, 2015.
With so many Final Fantasy games getting remade and updated, fans have been wanting a fresh release for one of the more divisive games in the series Final Fantasy XII. Take a look at a few of the images from the Prima announcement below. Would you want a remaster of Final Fantasy XII? What did you think of the game when it came out? Let us know in the comments.
