Pillars of Eternity was originally set to release in 2014, but was delayed. Originally titled Project Eternity, Pillars of Eternity is a throwback title with close ties to Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment.

According to Obsidian “Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPG’s that we enjoyed making – and playing. At Obsidian, we have the people responsible for many of those classic games and we want to bring those games back…”

The game was launched by a very successful Kickstarter, which raised nearly four million dollars to create the game.

In addition to announcing the release date, Obsidian will be showcasing the game on their Twitch channel today at 1PM PST (21:00 GMT).
