The Next Fatal Frame Coming to Wii U, Nightmares Guaranteed

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

As recently announced in Famitsu, the video game world can look forward to the return of Fatal Frame, a franchise guaranteed to scare the piss out of you. The games are based around a general premise, make you explore eerie Japanese settings typically armed with only a camera. You are then encouraged to, as you can guess, take pictures of said ghosts for points. The only problem is concentrating on the ghosts while you sob in fear and think of eighty other much less terrifying things you’d rather be doing, like playing with puppies or gardening.

Fans of the franchise will be glad to know that a new entry in the series is in the works, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U. While there are no specific details on the game just yet, it’s almost guaranteed that they’ll be using the Wii U GamePad in direct synchronicity with the game’s camera feature. It’s the perfect peripheral and system for Fatal Frame, and it’s bound to ensure you never sleep again.

The only big concern is whether or not the game will be localized for regions outside of Japan. The last game in the series, Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, released in 2008 for the Nintendo Wii never saw the light of day beyond Japanese borders. However, this new Fatal Frame is part of an expansion of the franchise, as a movie, novel, and graphic novel are in the works as well. Under the supervision and development of Tecmo Koei and Nintendo, there’s a bigger possibility this time around that the rest of the world can get in on some new Fatal Frame action. We’ll be sure to let you know when we hear anything from Tecmo Koei or Nintendo on any further developments of the game.

Also, whatever you do, don’t look behind you.
