My Butoden is stronger than yours.

On the surface the game appears structured like your standard 2D fighter, however in true Dragon Ball Z fashion you can transition the fight from land to air, make use of several flashy “Ultimate” and “Final Ultimate” attacks, and even switch between multiple fighters or call in assist characters to aid you–which looks very reminiscent of Marvel vs Capcom.

You can form teams of up to 5 Z-Fighters, drawing from a limited pool of “Dragon Power” to assemble them and it appears as though you can mix and match between fully fledged fighters, and Z-Assist support types. Character switching is handled on the touch screen, with a tap of a character’s portrait bringing them into the fray. You can check out all of this in glorious video motion below:

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden, the latest fighting game based on the popular anime about changing hair colors and dragons shooting out of fists, is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in Japan this year. It is being developed by Arc System Works, the developers most known for Persona 4 Arena, and maybe also some other games. Lets hope this Butoden extends beyond Japan so that we can all have a turn rocking the dragon.
