Sylvanas has an amazing story, which has inspired some of the best fan art in the Warcraft universe. A quick refresh on Sylvanas’ story: after being murdered by King Arthas, Sylvanas was brought back as an undead. At that point, things had soured a bit between her and Arthas, so she rebelled against the Lich King, and became the founder of the Forsaken, the undead faction who are allies with the Horde. All that death and intrigue has produced some amazing renditions of the undead night elf, soon to be added to Heroes of the Storm. Let’s take a look.

The setting is fittingly eerie in this piece by Noodle, with a great use of blank space, and intricately detailed armor for Sylvanas. It captures the fantasy perfectly.

This piece by Chenbo is a bit more Gothic, which is fitting considering the subject matter is a banshee queen. The symmetry, extreme level of detail, and amazing use of lighting make this very captivating.

What is Lady Sylvanas without her bow? Naomiful captures the power of Sylvanas in her piece, and makes her really feel like a night elf turned evil.

Kafa’s fantastical take on Sylvanas is in stark contrast to the others showcased here. Sylvanas almost looks more Dranei than Night Elf in this piece, but somehow it works.

Although I’m not sure that, lore-wise, Sylvanas has a creature companion, it sure adds to the mood of this one. The air of shrouded mystery that surrounds her is captured perfectly in this piece.

Can we all agree that charcoal is not used enough in fantasy art? Okay, glad we got that settled, because this piece is amazing. It’s both rudimentary and exquisite; there should be an entire series of this.

The personality of this one is off the charts. It makes me feel like I could have a conversation with Sylvanas, and that is quite frankly, terrifying. Her hair, and those night elf eyebrows, really draw you in, and make you consider what this character would really be like.

On another website, user Karontor said this portrait of Sylvanas was the “Mona Lisa of fan art.” I have to agree. I haven’t seen this style of portrait done before, but it’s truly incredible. It belongs in a museum!
