Assassin's Creed Movie Casts Oscar Winner Marion Cotillard

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

According to a recent report by Deadline, Oscar winner and The Dark Knight Rises actress Marion Cotillard has been cast alongside Inglorious Bastards actor Michael Fassbender in Ubisoft’s first Assassin’s Creed movie. On Thursday, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot went public with the information that the movie has officially began production as well as that the release date has been postponed to Decemeber 21, 2016 (via Polygon). This news may be both exciting and frustrating for Assassin’s Creed fans. On one hand, almost nobody ever wants to hear that the proposed release date of anything long anticipated has been pushed back. On the other hand, it’s good to know that production and casting on the movie has officially begun.

Plus, although we like to have everything “now,” let’s not forget that when Ubisoft rushes there can be dire consequences. So maybe it’s all just good news. Maybe the fact that they’re pushing the movie back means that they are embarrassed over the Assassin’s Creed Unity debacle, have learned their lesson, and refuse to release another horrible piece of unfinished garbage like that to the public. Maybe it means that the movie is going to be everything we hope for and more because Ubisoft is going to be more motivated than ever to restore its reputation in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. For now, it is way too early to be certain; but we can certainly hope for the best.
