Best Kids Games on PS4 (2018)
Overcooked 2
First up in our list of the best kids games on PS4 is Overcooked 2. In this sequel to the popular cooking sim from 2017, Overcooked! 2 sticks to the formula and adheres to the, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, mantra – And that’s totally fine, because the first Overcooked! was a different kind of party game that casual and more experienced players could enjoy, making it one of the best kids on PS4.
Things get hectic quickly in Overcooked! 2. Up to four chefs must cook as many dishes as they can within the allotted time, and do so as accurately as possible. This makes for some wild and rewarding gameplay, where communication is key. Overcooked 2! can be a wonderful exercise for younger audiences to learn effective teamwork and communication. Yoku’s Island Express
Second on our list of the best kids games on PS4 is Yoku’s Island Express. Normally, the Metroidvania genre tends to have complexities that might not be suitable for children, but that is not the case for Yoku’s Island Express. It definitely still has some challenge, but includes a level of accessibility that allows for gamers of all ages to enjoy which is why it’s one of our best kids games on PS4.
Yoku’s is part Metroidvania, part pinball, which is certainly an odd combination – But an effective one that emits so much charm and personality. The vibrant colors lend themselves to be played by kids, but the real draw is with the lovable and witty characters.

Unravel Two
Next up on our list of the best kids games on PS4 is this cute platformer. There’s a certain correlation between childhood and playing with yarn. Perhaps it’s all those arts and crafts kids like to partake in. With Unravel Two, the platforming and story are expanded upon, but the main addition is the inclusion of an additional yarn character.
That means the entire game is playable cooperatively, or solo with an AI companion that works well enough. Plaything through this in co-op reminds me of childhood, during the days when I’d sit with a family member or friend to finish a game. That and the inclusion of a helpful hint system make this a great game for younger audiences, and worthy of being on our list of the best kids games on PS4.

Following the events of the two Pixar movies, Lego The Incredibles is a deeper dive into that beloved universe. There are 8 playable characters, the inclusion of puzzles, and platforming that’s meant for younger players. It’s a great game for parents to play with their children because of the funny writing, but simple to understand gameplay. This is why it’s one of the top-notch Kids Games on PS4

Donut County
Next on our list of the best kids games on PS4 is Donut County. One of the defining qualities for a kids game is usually the art, and Donut County delivers with some lovely vibrant colors. It’s more than just bright colors, though – Donut County has unique and addicting gameplay that parents would probably approve of.
The main draw is that you get to swallow everything in your path with a hole – Hence the name Donut County. As you swallow more things, the hole gets bigger, allowing you to swallow even bigger things! Along with some fun gameplay are some wonderfully quirky characters that kept me smiling the whole time. Spider-Man
After what seems like a decade of mediocre Spider-Man games, Insomniac finally delivered, and created not only an incredible Spider-Man game, but a Game of the Year contender. What’s great is that Spider-Man is for everyone, not just adults, it’s also one of the best kids games on PS4.
Sure, it covers heavy themes at times, but overall, this is a lighthearted, positive experience without the gruesome violence many parents are probably cautious of. This is a game that a parent won’t have to worry about, in terms of content, and it helps that it’s expertly crafted – We loved it, which is why it’s on our list of the best kids games on PS4.

Moss
Playing through this 6 hour fairy-tale adventure in VR is an experience full of wonder. I know the barrier to entry for VR is a lot. However, there are a slew of magical and unique experiences on the platform. Moss is definitely one of the best kids games on PS4.
You play as a mouse, journeying through a fantastical land where you’ll battle enemies and engage in platforming. There is a great sense of progression within the difficulty as it ramps up. This allows for more accessibility for younger gamers. And, it’s definitely one our favorite choices on this list of the best kids games on PS4.

Owlboy
Next on our list of the best kids games on PS4 is Owlboy. Taking a page from Mario, Metroid, and Kid Icarus, Owlboy manages to spark originality. While also, still taking its roots from such classics. In it, you play as an owl…boy…named Otus. Otus must save his village from a group of pirates and uncover the mysteries of the owl-human hybrids.
That synopsis sounds like something a kid would make up, and it works just as well as you’d hope. The vibrant colors will attract kids, but the satisfying and accessible gameplay will surely make them stick around, and that’s what it’s on our list of the best kids games on PS4.

Harvest Moon: Light of Hope
Most kids probably aren’t in charge of managing a farm, starting a family, or mining for resources, but Harvest Moon: Light of Hope is the next best thing. Although we’re used to seeing Harvest Moon on Nintendo platforms, this entry finally sees the series on a Sony system with the PS4, and it makes our list of the best kids games on PS4.
Tasked with rebuilding an old rundown farm to turn it into a successful one, Light of Hope has all the simulation and role-playing we love. Things like giving gifts, decorating your farm, and raising animals are just some of the quirky features available, and it’s a great change of pace, especially for kids. It’s one of the best kids games on PS4.

Scribblenauts: Mega Pack
Scribblenauts is one of the definitive games for kids, and is one of our best kids games on PS4. Younger audiences are known for their wild imaginations and Scribblenauts allows them to express themselves and be rewarded for doing so. In the Mega Pack, you get Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked, a fantastic package of charming little puzzle adventure games.
The main hook of these games is that you must solve puzzles by spawning in objects from your magic notebook. You can do that by writing in whatever object you want. Want to spawn a tiny elephant? Write in, “tiny elephant”, and one will appear instantly. It’s a unique take on the puzzle genre and I urge everyone, even adults to try it. Read our review here!
