Each and every month, Microsoft provides Xbox Live Gold subscribers with a bunch of free games, called Games with Gold. Normally, we get our hands on four titles, two for Xbox One and two for Xbox 360. Here, we’re going to be predicting the July 2021 Xbox Games with Gold free games for Xbox One.

The Bigger Game – Outer Wilds

First up we’ve got Mobius Digital’s Outer Wilds. The space exploration game sees you joining Outer Wilds Ventures as their newest recruit. Now a part of this fledgling space program, you must take to the space to search for the answers to the mysterious Nomad species that planet-hopped many years ago, all before the sun goes supernova and you wake back up on your home planet.

It’s a fascinating game, filled with puzzles, fantastic storytelling, and a world teeming with secrets to uncover. While the controls take a while to get used to, once you do, you’ll keep blasting through the 22-minute-long time loops in the desperate hope of cracking the solar system’s deepest mystery.

So why do we think it’ll come to Games with Gold in July 2021? Well, for starters it’s been a while since its release, which appears to be a common trend with Microsoft’s recent picks. On top of that, we know there’s set to be a DLC coming in the near future titled ‘Echoes of the Eye,’ so what better time to bolster the numbers of Outer Wilds Ventures than now?

Plus, it really is a fantastic game and was one of my GOTY 2019 contenders. It’s on Game Pass too, so if you’re a subscriber, go check it out… like now.

While Laser League was touted as ‘the next Rocket League’ when it released back in 2018, it never quite got enough people playing to really take off in the same way those rocket-powered, soccer-loving cars did years earlier.

The game even launched on Xbox Game Pass back in May 2018 but left the service a year later on May 31, 2019. With so many players subscribed to Xbox Live, and the game being free to keep forever for Gold subscribers, releasing it for free this way may give the game’s servers a much-needed jumpstart, as numbers, from personal experience (and other Redditors noting) have really dwindled since launch.

Still, if you can get a few friends together, Laser League’s fast-paced, multiplayer action is a great laugh and would make a solid freebie for Microsoft’s multiplayer subscription service.
