Alien Isolation by Drayux
Many different factors go into an excellent speedrun, and this Alien: Isolation run has them all. Drayux brings high energy and passion with his commentary, as well as plenty of amazing tricks he showcases.
Horror games are always less scary when you can see them broken down and manipulated. This run is an easy recommendation for anyone who has a few hours and is looking for a good time.
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition by Mekarazium
Devil May Cry 4 is already a high-octane action-game, but this speedrun cranks it to 11. Mekarazium showcases an insane run of the entire game in only an hour and a half.
It’s stated during the run that Meka was the only person running this game for two and a half years before more people got involved. He knows this game inside and out, and it’s an absolute must-watch.
There was also a bonus showcase at the end, which has some boss fights that will leave you at the edge of your seat.
Pokemon Shield by Eddaket
Pokemon runner Eddaket closed out SGDQ this year with Pokemon Shield and it was a feel-good moment. Not only does Eddaket’s passion for Pokemon speedrunning shine through, but SGDQ also passes the two million dollar mark during the run!
This run also dips into the recently released Isle of Armor DLC and showcases a full run-through that you won’t want to miss.
Pump It Up by HappyF333tz
Since SGDQ 2020 had to move online just like many other events this year, it allowed for some unusual things to make it into the lineup.
While this isn’t precisely a speedrun, Happyf333tz was able to showcase this insane rhythm game Pump It Up. For an hour, he ran the hardest songs in the game on this arcade machine he has in his garage.
Despite not being a traditional speedrun, it’s worth checking out how insane Pump It Up is.
Half-Life Alyx by Buffet_Time
This is the first VR run ever to be at a Games Done Quick. This SGDQ run is a must-watch for anyone who is even remotely interested in speedruns. Not only is it exhilarating to watch the game itself, but seeing Buffet_Time crawling around on the floor and spinning is entertaining in itself!
Doom Eternal by Bloodshot9001
Some of the most exciting runs to watch at Games Done Quick are heavy movement games. Doom Eternal’s movement tech is insane and turns an already hectic game into a full-blown nightmare in the best way.
Bloodshot9001 shows off tricks that allow him to fly through the air, swing around using the grappling hook, and take down bosses in mere seconds.
Night Trap by Ecdycis
It wouldn’t be a GDQ without a block of games dubbed the “silly block”. Kicking off this block was a blindfolded run of Night Trap by Ecdycis.
The less you know about this game the better off you are, but just trust us when we say you need to watch how absurd this is.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by Kaadzik
The Witcher 3 is a massive game, but Kaadzik finishes it in just two hours. Some crazy techniques are used to cause Geralt to run insanely fast and allows Kaadzik to run across the entire world at his leisure.
If you’re a fan of The Witcher 3, it’s worth checking out to see your favorite parts in a new light.
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green Race by Pulseeffects & JP_Xinnan
GDQ has a few races that get your heart pumping, and this one is no exception. Pulseeffects takes a Charmander, and JP_Xinnan takes a Squirtle, which is an extremely clever way to show two different routes for the same game.
This race is neck and neck all the way down to the final battle. For fans of Pokemon, speedruns, or just video games in general, this is something you won’t want to miss.
Resident Evil 3: Remake by MikeWave
Resident Evil games are some of the best speedruns to watch. Watching survival-horror games completely optimized is satisfying and will even teach you some tips and tricks you can implement in your own playthrough.
MikeWave and his coach have great commentary and explain all of his moments so anyone can understand what is going on.
