Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is one of the most successful MMOs of all time, and it’s still going strong with a new expansion launching this month. Shadowbringers for lack of a better word, brings a darker take to the world of Final Fantasy XIV.
The Warrior of the Light embraces the darkness, and there’s a wealth of new locations and options to explore.
Gunbreaker and Dancer are two brand new jobs to play as, while character creator gets the new races of Viera and Hrothgar. On top of all that there’s an increase to the level cap, a New Game + option, and changes to the battle system itself.
If you’re a Final Fantasy XIV fan there’s a ton of new content to dig into, and if not, now might be the time to try it out.
Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle
Koei Tecmo’s Attack on Titan games are the most faithful adaptions we’ve seen of the series yet, and the second game gets a sizable update this month with the Final Battle version.
If you haven’t played Attack on Titan 2 yet you can purchase the Final Battle version as a brand new game, however, if you have played AoT 2 there’s a Final Battle upgrade pack releasing as DLC.
This addition adds on a new character episode mode detailing the events from season 3 of the anime, as well as five new playable characters. On top of that, there’ll be brand new equipment to use, and a new mode to play.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
The first Dragon Quest Builders took the Minecraft formula and dropped that into the colorful world of Dragon Quest, adding on more story and character development in the process.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 is expanding upon that formula even more, presenting a new story, new original characters, and a larger world to explore and build in.
Unlike the first game, you can explore with a few friends, as Dragon Quest Builders 2 adds online co-op multiplayer. You’ll also be able to get around the world quicker by fast traveling, dashing, gliding, and much more.
Dragon Quest Builders was a great little addition to the long-running series, and by all indications Dragon Quest Builders, 2 is going to be bigger and better.Â
Caravan Stories
Caravan Stories is a charming-looking MMORPG coming to PS4, with an absolutely gorgeous art style. The world is highly stylized, almost resembling some of the classic PS2 JRPGs like Radiata Stories, or the Tales games.
You also won’t have to pay to play this one, as it’s a free to play MMO with both PVP and PVE elements. Of course, that might mean there are microtransaction elements, but we don’t know exactly how that might pan out at the moment.
Caravan Stories has seen great success in Japan, with over two million players, so it’s easily worth giving a try when it launches in the West.
Kill la Kill the Game: IF
Dragon Ball FighterZ set the world on fire when it released in early 2018, and now Arc System Works is bringing their expertise to another stylish action anime on PS4, Kill la Kill.
Kill la Kill the Game: IF is a super stylish arena brawler that looks pretty much exactly like the anime, just playable. The game tells an entirely new story supervised by the original scenario writer, Kazuki Nakashima.
Of course, combat is the main draw of Kill la Kill: IF and it certainly looks like it won’t disappoint. There’s a handful of playable characters from the series including Ryuko, Ira, Satsuki, Ragyo, and more.
Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot
The first of two Wolfenstein games on PS4 this month, Cyberpilot puts you in the shoes of an expert hacker living in Paris in 1980. In order to help the French Resistance, you’ll hack into powerful Nazi war machines and turn them against their creators in bombastic combat.
Cyberpilot is a VR exclusive game, so it might be a good excuse to bust out that PSVR headset again. It certainly isn’t as lengthy or fleshed out of an experience as Wolfenstein II, but if you’re just looking to blow a bunch of stuff up, Cyberpilot is bound to be a good time.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood
The meatier Wolfenstein experience of the month is Youngblood, a brand new cooperative shooter for PS4 set in the Wolfenstein universe. The game takes place in 1980, two decades after Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
You, and a friend, play as Jess and Soph Blazkowicz, the twin daughters of BJ Blazkowicz, as they travel to Paris in search of their missing father. Youngblood still has all the high-octane violence and shooting of its predecessor, but now missions can be completed in a nonlinear fashion.
You can play the entire game with an AI partner, or bring a friend along for the ride, which should make combat even more exciting than in Wolfenstein II. Of course, there’s also going to be plenty of new weapons, gear, and more.
