Retro Studios
Since getting Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze for the Wii U back in 2014 and then this year on the Switch, we really haven’t seen anything new from Retro Studios and it’s truly upsetting.
Even though they created the Metroid Prime trilogy, Retro isn’t working on the upcoming Metroid Prime 4, which is… odd, but we’ll take Nintendo’s word for it considering the quality run of Nintendo exclusives we’ve seen on the Switch so far.
That leaves the big question: what is Retro Studios cooking up? Is it a reboot of another forgotten Nintendo franchise like F-Zero? Or a new IP perhaps?
Whatever it may be, here’s hoping we see something brand new from this Nintendo subsidiary sometime in 2019.

Rocksteady Studios
It’s been three years since the end of the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham series and we’re hungry for more Rocksteady and for another sandbox-style superhero game.
Rocksteady announced not too long ago that they are not working on a Super-Man game, so there goes that idea; but there are a ton of other characters that deserve the chance in the spotlight. Or hell, maybe they will just go back to the Batman well once again since Superman is definitely not a thing.
Rocksteady did something seemingly impossible and made an incredible licensed video game about a superhero, and now the pressure is on for them to revolutionize the gaming world once again.
And not only one game, but a fantastic trilogy that we will always look back on. Of course, we would totally take a game based on a different DC hero. A really good Green Lantern game would be pretty sweet, just saying.

Psyonix
Yes, yes, I know that Psyonix has been supporting Rocket League like nobody’s business, but wouldn’t it be rad to see something new from the team? Something, I don’t know, not sports-related?
Psyonix prides themselves on creating one of the most unique multiplayer sports game out there, but it’s been almost four years since Rocket League first launched on PS4. Rocket League has probably made enough money that they can afford to move at least part of the team over to something entirely new.
Rocket League when it released back on 2015 was fresh, exciting, and fun. Let’s see Psyonix do it again in an entirely different genre.

Guerrilla Games
Horizon: Zero Dawn threw us into a sprawling open world full of robotic dinosaurs, intriguing side quests, and a strong heroine who kicked butt with a bow and arrow.
Our time with Aloy didn’t end too long ago, but waiting to see what the developers of Killzone have up their sleeves is nerve-wracking.
To be honest, we can play it safe and just assume that a Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 is in the works, but what if they trick us all, and give us yet another new IP for the PlayStation 5? Only time will tell, and 2019 is upon us.
This generation, whether we want to admit it or not is coming to a close, so it will be very interesting to see what direction Guriella Games decides to go in. Whether or not we hear from them in 2019 will be telling about how far along their latest project is.

Ghost Story Games
Formally known as Irrational Games, Ghost Story Games includes the team behind the BioShock franchise. While they’ve been at work for a few years now, they’ve yet to announce a new game.
Bioshock Infinite was critically and commercially successful, but apparently, they need a lot of time to outdo themselves because it has been radio silent over there for a while now.
All we know about their upcoming project is that they plan to appeal to fans of BioShock while also making the story as challenging as the gameplay and vice versa.
Immersive story-driven games is their focus, so expect something incredible from them in the next few years or so. Hopefully, 2019 will be the year that they give us at least a little tease of something.

Monolith Soft
Okay, so, Monolith Soft recently launched a massive JRPG on the Switch just last year and trust me, it was gigantic.
However, while Xenoblade Chronicles 2 scratched that JRPG itch that was sort of absent on the Switch at the time, it would be cool to see a smaller title from the Japan-based development studio. Similar to what we’ve seen Square Enix do recently with I Am Setsuna and Octopath Traveler.
We’ve had three new Xeno games in the past decade from Monolith, and while those RPGs are great and all, seeing this studio doing something different for the Switch would be fantastic.
Even seeing an arcade fighter like Project X Zone on the hybrid console would be a neat addition to the library and would make 2019 even more phenomenal for the system. Or they could just give us a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 reveal –that would be rad too.

Arkane Studios
Arkane Studios brought us the stealth action-adventure series, Dishonored, and also brought Prey into a new light with a re-imagining of the forgotten property.
While neither of these games made waves as large as some of the other games that came out around the same time, they were still fine titles and it would be neat to know what’s coming next. Are they moving on from Prey and Dishonored or are they still exploring those franchises?
Regardless, it will be two years soon since Prey released and Arkane Studios has not said anything on the future of the studio or these two franchises. It really could be any or all of the above or none of it and that’s what makes Arkane Studios especially mysterious right now.
