Yakuza 0

Starting off our list, we have Yakuza 0 –the prequel to the action-adventure series. The game finally made it to Steam last August, giving PC players a chance to play the very first installment in the franchise. Yakuza 0 takes place way back in 1988, before protagonist Kazuma Kiryu even met his soon-to-be daughter Haruka, and follows the story of the “Empty Lot” dispute in Japan. Kazuma and Goro Maijima team up to investigate the mysterious power struggle, kickstarting the events in the Yakuza series.

Like most Yakuza games, 0 is also an open world adventure game set in Japan. The game has full fictionalized recreations of Tokyo’s Kabukicho and Osaka’s Dotonbori that are all fully explorable. Since there are two protagonists, you’ll be switching between both Kazuma and Goro throughout Yakuza 0. Apart from the main story are other side quests and hilarious mini-games. Not to mention that it wouldn’t be a full-fledged Yakuza game without the over-the-top combat. Those who have always wanted to get into the Yakuza series should definitely pick up this Steam game. If you’re still on the fence, check out our thoughts on the game in our full review.

Dead Cells

Dead Cells has picked up plenty of steam over the past few months, and rightfully so. This 2D rogue-lite Metroidvania has you exploring a vast, ever-changing castle filled with all sorts of dangerous enemies crawling about.

As the name implies, you’ll be controlling a mass of cells that control the body of a dead prisoner. You’ll have to weave your way through the castle and fight these powerful creatures with an assortment of different weapons. Dead Cells is a very action-heavy game, so timing and reading the enemy plays a big part in combat. Luckily, there are plenty of other perks and power-ups you can get in the game, with some you can find or buy with currency called cells. Any money you collect can be spent at the end of each stage, although dying means dropping every single cell you’ve managed to collect. We personally loved Dead Cells for its grueling combat, and you can check out our thoughts on the game here.

Overcooked! 2

Overcooked 2

Overcooked was hands-down one of the best party over the recent years, so it isn’t all too surprising that Ghost Town Games decided to make a sequel. As with the first game, Overcooked! 2 is packed with the same culinary mayhem, from cooking meals to washing dashes in the craziest kitchens possible. Cooperation still plays a big part when it comes to serving the right dish, especially when you’re cooking up a storm in some of the dynamic stages.

Moreover, the sequel isn’t afraid to mix things up by adding some other features, such as the ability to actually throw ingredients. Of course, there are also tons of new recipes to look forward to, as well as a slew of new chefs to play. Probably the best thing about Overcooked! 2, however, has to be the addition of online multiplayer. While the game is great for couch co-op, now you can cook with your friends online. Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World, Shadow of the Colossus

While it took them seven months to do it, Capcom finally managed to bring Monster Hunter: World over to PC through Steam. The latest entry in the series has been one of the company’s best success stories, selling over 40 million copies during this year alone. With its recent Steam port, players can finally enjoy the best version of the game with stunning graphics and smooth performance on their rig.

Like all Monster Hunter games, the latest installment has you hunting only the most ferocious beasts in the new world. This game is by far the most accessible entry in the series, trading most of the clunky controls for a more streamlined experience. World boasts over 30 different monsters to hunt, including the deadly Elder Dragons, along with new areas to explore. You can check out our full review of the game here and our impressions of the Steam version here.

Shenmue I & II

With Shenmue III launching next year, what better way to brush up on the series than by playing the first two games? Shenmue I & II are finally on Steam, giving players the chance to start the trilogy before the third game rolls around. The Shenmue series is known for being one of the pioneers of open world gaming, mainly because of its expansive, fully-detailed map. Moreover, the game follows a structural time system with buses that follow certain timetables and shops that open and close.

Both games center around a martial arts pupil named Ryo Hazuki who sets off on his own personal journey to uncover the mysteries surrounding his father’s murder. Players will be traveling around Hong Kong, Yokosuka, and Guilin as they search for clues, scrutinize suspects, and fight enemies. Both games are part of one bundle on Steam, so it’s worth looking into if you’re waiting for the third game.
