Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

Announced at The Game Awards last November, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is a superhero game coming in 2019 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

The last installment in this franchise was Ultimate Alliance 2 back in 2009. This series is beloved for its tag team matchups of fan-favorite superheroes from the Marvel world.

In the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 trailer, we see gameplay that looks much more over the shoulder than the staple isomeric view the series is known for. It showcases famous villains like Kingpin, Ultron, Sandman, and of course The Black Order.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance features up to four player co-op so be sure to get your friends in on the party.

From the trailer alone the roster is shaping up to be quite large with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Falcon, Spider-Man, and even Wolverine!

No official release date is set, but the trailer states it’s a 2019 release, we know who we’re ready to play as, but who will you pick?

The Avengers Project

awol games we're hoping to see in 2019

Square Enix teased an Avengers project they were working on back in Jan. 2017 and we haven’t even heard a whisper of it since.

Given that it’s being developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, the upcoming game has the potential to be one of the biggest releases of the year. And having been hiding mysteriously for long enough, 2019 is looking like the year will be seeing it.

With the recent success of Spider-Man for PlayStation 4 and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a strong Avengers game is ripe for the picking. Marvel has proven they know who to pick for their video game projects and Square Enix is poised for success with this property.

With a big Q1 for Square with Kingdom hearts 3 and Left Alive they need something to round out the rest of their year. A fall release would be great for this Avengers project coming right off of the heels of Avengers: Endgame. Is this game going to be a single-player narrative experience or a games as a service like Destiny? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

The Lego Movie 2 Video Game

Now I know what you’re thinking, The Lego movie isn’t a superhero game, however, it will heavily feature the new gritty Lego Batman. Fans of the Lego Batman movie or just Batman, in general, should keep their eye out for this game as it will also tie into the new Lego Movie 2, to be released in 2019.

The plot seems to follow Emmet, the protagonist of the first movie as he teams up for a space adventure to save the galaxy. The movie trailer also features a brief second of Superman who could also be playable in this tie-in game.

The Lego games are known for their large list of licensed properties that could make for a truly exciting mix.

While it may not entirely be a superhero game, running around as Lego Batman or potentially Superman can help tide you over until the next big superhero game releases. The nature of the Lego games by Traveler’s Tales are fun and a good time for anyone who isn’t looking for too much of a challenge or wants to play something family friendly with their kids.

Marvel’s New Mobile Game

Marvel recently announced a partnership with the studio Second Dinner. This studio is comprised of ex-Blizzard employees and one of them, Ben Brode, was the former Director on Hearthstone. Second Dinner also announced they received $30 million in funding from Chinese company NetEase to help the development of their next mobile game.

It is unlikely that they develop a mobile card game considering Marvel already has one called Marvel Battle Lines. So what sort of mobile game could this be? Maybe it’s a mobile battle royale game that features unique heroes and villains, or it could even be a game similar to the recently announced Diablo Immortal.

NetEase’s involvement points more towards the latter since they are also helping with Diablo immortal. Also, their other game Crusader’s of Light is very similar.

What do you think this mobile game will be? Let us know in the comments below.
