From collecting hearts and secret seashells to gathering items for a massively long trading sequence, there is tons to do in this charming remake of Link’s Awakening. If you’re completely new to the game and are looking for pointers, here are the three things that you should absolutely do first before anything.
Get the Bow and Arrow Early On
When you first get to enter the Town Tool shop in Mabe Village, you’ll find a bow and arrow there for a whopping 980 rupees. At the beginning of the game, you most likely won’t have anywhere near this many rupees in your pocket, but we recommend getting this item as quickly as you can.
Not only is the bow one of the best items in the game, but it can help you with some tricky puzzle solving early on in the game and can really make some of the harder bosses a piece of cake.
You can cut lots of grass to farm rupees or play some games at the Trendy Game to get some rupees, which is the preferred method.
Get the Empty Bottle
A new feature that’s been added to this remake, empty bottles lets you trap magic fairies inside that’ll heal you in a pinch.
Fairies will be found in dungeons and in the great fairy caves but you’ll need an empty bottle first if you want to catch them.
You can actually get an empty bottle pretty early on by going to the fishing pond in Mabe Village.
The empty bottle will be in the lower-left side of the pond and by pulling it out of the water with your fishing rod, you can have it all for yourself.
Get the Yoshi Doll to Get the Ribbon to Get the Dog Food…
If you weren’t aware, there is a 14-item-long trading sequence in Link’s Awakening that revolves around getting one item to then give it to someone else and rinse and repeat.
You only have to do part of it in order to progress through the main story, but you can get a head start as soon as you start the game.
If you go to the Trendy Game shop, you can win a Yoshi doll by playing the crane game. Once you have that, just go to the mom in the big house to the north of the shop and then she will give you a pink ribbon.
Now, go to the house with the Chain Chomp in front and give the baby Chain Chomp the ribbon and then she’ll give you a can of dog food (don’t ask).
Once you have that, go to Sale’s house on Toronbo Shores, and then give him the dog food, which then will reward you with some bananas, which you’ll need later on in the story.
Doing this, in the beginning, will help you out and save you some backtracking time later on.
And that does it for things to do first in Link’s Awakening. For more on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki guide and our scored review. And for everything else, search Twinfinite.
