Speaking Simulator is a weird game that will definitely creep you out. As its title would suggest, you must do your best as a totally normal human being (and definitely not a robot) to appear as normal as possible in speech, movement, and plenty of other mundane actions. Easier said than done.

It’s hyper-realistic in the worst way possible. Not in graphics but in the fact that quite literally every part of your face and body can move. You can even move your tongue.

Maintaining control of everything is the key to, not only get through dating others, but to win an election where you, as totally not a robot, will guide humanity into greatness.

And you don’t need to wait long to play this. You can nab up this masterpiece on Jan. 30 on Steam. You can check out its wacky launch trailer in the meantime.

Carrion

While Carrion is certainly not as weird as Speaking Simulator, it definitely isn’t like many games out on the market. You take control of an unknown, big blob of a creature as it rampages throughout a lab, killing everyone that imprisoned it.

Announced during E3, it’s a twist on normal horror games. You don’t often take control of the monster you would be running from if you’re the protagonist of a conventional survival game. It would be like playing as Mr. X in Resident Evil 2 or the monster in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

The creature you take control of also moves in such a way that can easily creep you out. It’s a mass of tentacles that latches onto every corner, every wall, and everyone it comes across as it literally consumes them. Sounds cheery.

Made by the aptly titled Phobia Game Studio and published by Devolver Digital, Carrion has no set release month but it’s expected to be out later in 2020 for PC and Xbox.

Oddworld: Soulstorm

The Oddworld series returns in 2020 with Oddworld: Soulstorm, a more or less remake of Abe’s Exoddus from back in the day. The Oddworld series is, well, odd in the way that it handles both its humor, story, and gameplay mechanics.

I mean, in Abe’s Oddysee, Abe can fart and giggle. Now, mix that with an overarching and blatant narrative about the injustices and indecencies about slavery and you get #Oddworld.

The released trailers and sneak peeks for Soulstorm don’t paint a defining picture but from what we’ve seen it will share in the bizarre, exaggerated, and weirdly dark atmosphere that all of the other Oddworld games have.

I mean, its Unity Cinematic trailer was just two workers with incredibly relatable facial expressions freaking out during an attack on their train.

Oddworld: Soulstorm has no set release date for 2020 but it’s expected to be out later this year.

Best Friend Forever

Best Friend Forever fuses a dating sim with pet care. Honestly, that’s all I need to say. Think of it as a weird game combination of Dream Daddy and Nintendogs.

Not only can you own and take care of some cute puppers in your own home but you can also spend your spare time dating some of the other single people you can find throughout the city.

The game’s announcement trailer was quite literally an infomercial spoken by your dog who vigorously wanted you to pick up its poop so we already know the game’s going to be a masterpiece.

Brought to you by Starcolt and Alliance, Best Friend Forever will festively release on Feb. 14 on Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Itch.io for all you romantic dog lovers.

Grounded

Made by Obsidian Entertainment, Grounded is a survival game set in a very tiny world. Essentially Honey I Shrunk the Kids as a weird video game, you take control of young characters quite literally shrunken to the size of an ant.

Since you’re so small, you’ll be fighting up against ants, stink bugs, spiders, and other creatures that wouldn’t be as spooky if you were normal height. As you avoid enemies, you need to build equipment, tools, and shelter to survive.

You can also team up with other players to build and fight against all of those creepy crawlies.

This wild, nature fighting game will be out in Spring 2020 for Xbox One and PC.

Little Nightmares II

The first Little Nightmares was eerie, unsettling, creepy, and downright weird with its atmosphere, themes, and story. From what we’ve seen of its sequel, Little Nightmares II will continue the spooky journey we were treated to in the first game.

This time, the nightmarish creatures and images we’ll encounter will have something to do with TVs, static, and odd projections. We’ll also be seeing frightening characters that have most certainly come from someone’s twisted dreams.

This pleasant game will be out later in 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Switch.

No More Heroes 3

The No More Heroes series is practically just #Japan and No More Heroes 3 continues the series’ over-the-top, dramatic, nonsensical, and random themes that are just essential to the series.

Our main man Travis returns in this sequel still just as lovable and as casual as he’s always been. The game’s reveal trailer even gives us an homage to Travis’ intro in the first game plus a random Gundam-esque power suit that he puts on just because.

From what we’ve seen so far, No More Heroes 3 will certainly entertain with its trademark weirdness and we’re ready for what it’ll bring.

You can grab this bad boy later in 2020 for the Switch.

Saturnalia

For all the games coming out in 2020, this may or may not have flown under the radar for you. By Santa Ragione, Saturnalia is a survival horror game where a group of characters explore an isolated village full of mazes and winding corridors.

Your lives are each character you still have and you’ll play for as long as one is still alive. The kicker here is that once all characters die, the game reworks the map and changes it entirely into something else. So, dying is essentially a hard reset. It’s also non-linear so it’ll be incredibly easy to get lost.

The goal here is to stop an ancient ritual centering in the village with whatever tools and skills you’ve picked up throughout the game so you may or may not succeed in this wild game that’ll make you think.

Saturnalia is set to release sometime later this year.

Who’s Your Daddy?

Who’s Your Daddy initially came out in early access a few years ago but they’ve just recently announced a full remake of the game that’ll rework its appearance and add quite a few new gameplay aspects.

Gone are the days of that nightmarish egg of a baby and the soulless eyes of its father. This time the baby actually looks like a baby and its father looks like he more or less cares now.

There will be plenty of new items to play with like ketchup, trampolines, ceiling lights, and toy guns. Even the dad will be able to feed his baby though the “feeding” is essentially shoving something into its mouth.

Of course, the game’s main premise of the baby trying to kill itself with as many dangerous objects as it can and the dad trying to stop him will still be around. This time, we’ll just get a nice new makeover on Dec. 23.

Boyfriend Dungeon

Weird Games in 2020

Boyfriend Dungeon is a very weird game. Like Best Friend Forever, it combines a dating simulator with something else but this time this “something” will be the fact that you can date your weapons. And no, you didn’t read that wrong.

Boyfriend Dungeon is a different take on dungeon crawling in the sense that each of the weapons you choose to use have humanoid forms that you can essentially date. There will be enemies to fight, dungeons to delve into, and a full combat system to utilize. You also just so happen to be able to date your weapon.

Valeria the Dagger, Isaac the Estoc, and Sawyer the Glaive are only some of the weapons you can chat up. They all have their likes and dislikes so you need to navigate the wonderful world of communication to appeal to their interests.

According to Steam, Boyfriend Dungeon will come out “when weapons are beautiful enough” but the game is set to release this year for PC and Switch.
