For all of its melancholy stories and characters, Nier Replicant is still an action JRPG at heart. You’ll spend many, many hours battling enemies, and it won’t be an uncommon occurrence for you to take some devastating blows in the process. When this occurs, knowing how to heal your health in Nier Replicant will be vital to your survival and ensure you live to see the next skirmish.
That’s why we’ve compiled this guide. Read on to learn about all of the different ways there are to restore your HP, and whether there are any limits to when you can attempt to do so.
How to Heal Your Health in Nier Replicant
There are four different ways for you to heal your health in Nier Replicant, and they vary in how reliable they are.
The first method is to use healing items like Medical Herbs, Health Salves, and Recovery Potions. These items are readily available from Item Shops, and several enemies throughout the game will drop them upon being defeated. You can also use them whenever you wish by pressing up on the D-Pad to open the item menu, scrolling to the one you want to use, and selecting it.
You can carry 10 of each of these recovery items at any given time, and won’t be able to store any extras you come across in the field.
The second way you can heal is to be near a save point. Throughout the world of Nier Replicant, you’ll find post boxes that allow you to save your game. Getting within a certain distance of them will fully restore your health free of charge. You’ll know this has occurred when green light flashes over your character’s body.
However, it’s worth noting that save points aren’t very plentiful. They’ll typically only be at the beginning and end of dungeons, and there usually aren’t any in the open areas of the game. As such, you’ll need to play more cautiously if you don’t have other healing methods to rely on between finding save points.
The third method is to equip Words with the Drain Health ability. Dropped by stronger variants of shades, these equipment modifiers allow you to drain an enemy’s health with each hit. The amount drained is minuscule though, so you’ll need to keep hitting enemies repeatedly in order to see your health restored in large amounts.
Finally, you can rely on Emil for healing. After he joins your party permanently, he’ll occasionally toss healing spells your way during combat. Though the amount he restores isn’t much and it can take him a few minutes to fire off each spell, he’ll continue to heal you until your health is fully restored.
