Developed and published by Ubisoft, Watch Dogs Legion is the third and latest entry in the open world sci-fi series, and it continues the story and progress of the DedSec organization. This time, though, players will be able to recruit NPCs in the open world to their cause and even play as them to take advantage of their unique abilities. Aside from that, a lot of the usual Ubisoft-style open world mechanics are still in place here. Here’s how the Defiance system works in Watch Dogs Legion.
How Defiance Works in Watch Dogs Legion
The Defiance system functions similarly to past Ubisoft open world games where you’d be able to complete certain tasks and liberate various districts. In London, the city is divided up into a few different boroughs, and if you manage to max out the Defiance meter for one borough, you’ll get some rewards and benefits.
To do this, open your map and hover over any section of it to see the list of conditions you need to fulfill in order to increase the Defiance meter. There are usually only three tasks you need to complete and they’ll be different, depending on which borough you’re in.
The tasks include sabotage, digital defacing, rescuing freedom fighters, and taking out VIP targets. Once you’ve completed all the required tasks for a borough, you’ll unlock a new mission for that specific borough, and completing it will max out the Defiance meter.
What Watch Dogs Legion Defiance Does
There are a few benefits to liberating a borough, as listed below:
- You gain a skilled operative.
- Recruiting NPCs becomes more frequent.
- All Tech Point locations get revealed.
- More gadget upgrades get unlocked.
The skilled operatives are definitely the main reason why you should work on maxing out the Defiance meters for each borough. They’re considerably more useful and powerful than regular NPCs, and will definitely help to diversify your team.
The gadget unlocks are also extremely important as you get more of them the more boroughs you free up. The gadget unlocks include the ability to disable turret and combat drones, and as these guys show up a lot more in later missions and can be hard to take down, being able to hack them will make things a lot easier.
