Minecraft Piston Crafting Recipe

You’ll need the following materials to craft a piston:

  • 4 Cobblestone
  • 1 Redstone Dust
  • 3 Wood Planks (Any)
  • 1 Iron Ingot

To make a piston in Minecraft, go over to your Crafting Table and place the above materials in the following positions on the 3×3 grid. That means your wood planks go along the top row, the Iron Ingot goes in the middle space, and the Redstone Dust goes beneath it. The four cobblestones go in the remaining four spaces.

Sometimes, you may need multiple pistons to be able to complete your project. Fortunately, the materials required to make a piston are incredibly common so you shouldn’t have much difficulty duplicating the process above.

What are Pistons Used for in Minecraft?

Pistons are a block type that can push movable blocks, players and mobs when given a Redstone pulse.

As a result, they can be used to help automate processes. For example, it’s possible to build an automatic farm where pistons are used to release water, harvesting your planted crops on the soil and watering the soil ready for more crops to be replanted.

They can also be used to make a Dragon Egg for those wanting to dabble in endgame content. Oh, and if you’re feeling really adventurous you can make a flying machine.

Finally, pistons can be used to make sticky pistons, which are also required for the flying machine.
