The Last of Us 2 is finally out in the wild, and while the core gameplay does remain largely the same as the first game, there are a few additions to help shake things up a little. For instance, you’ll now be able to use silencers to make stealth a little easier. Here’s how to craft and equip silencers in The Last of Us 2.
How to Craft Silencers
If you’re not a huge fan of the bow, The Last of Us 2 makes stealth encounters a little more interesting by introducing the silencer. It’s worth noting that they can only be equipped on the pistol, though, so if you want a long range stealth weapon, you’ll still have to fall back on the bow from time to time.
To unlock them, you’ll first need to pick up the Survival training manual found on Seattle Day 1. This will give you access to the Survival character upgrade tree, and you can unlock the ability to craft silencers with supplementary pills.
How to Use Silencers
Once you’ve crafted them from the crafting menu, equip your pistol and hold L2 to aim, then press the triangle button to equip or take out the silencer. When you first start, the silencer will also be effective for three fired shots. On Moderate difficulty, the pistol can kill regular, unarmored enemies with three shots, so it should be enough for you to take out at least one enemy quietly. Headshots will still be an instant kill on unarmored enemies if you manage to land them.
If you continue progressing through the Survival upgrade tree, you’ll eventually be able to improve your silencers so that they’ll last five shots instead, making your stealth encounters much easier.
