Twisted Energy and Altered Element are the new currencies added to Destiny 2, and they’re the main resources you’ll need to get your new gear through Umbral Engrams. They both serve different purposes, and you’ll need them to work in tandem so you can get the specific items you want.

Twisted Energy

First off, Twisted Energy can be obtained by completing the weekly bounties found at the Prismatic Recaster.

Just interact with the Recaster, collect the two weekly bounties there, complete them and you’ll get your rewards. These are used to fine-tune your Umbral Engram focuses at the Prismatic Recaster, and they essentially determine the kinds of items you’ll get from decoding your Umbral Engrams.

Just like regular bounties, these require you to complete various objectives like taking down elites, bosses, or dealing a specific type of damage like Solar, Void, or Arc.

Altered Element

Altered Element is the other resource that you can get through the Prismatic Recaster, except these are obtained by completing the daily bounties instead of the weekly ones.

These are much easier to obtain, and allow you to actually decode the Umbral Engrams that you turn in, ensuring that you’re always getting a steady supply of gear while playing.
