Pokemon Sword & Shield are the latest entries in Game Freak’s popular monster-catching series, and they’re the first official main games to be released on the Nintendo Switch. If you’re wondering whether you can have multiple saves in Pokemon Sword & Shield, we’ve got you covered. Here’s what you need to know.
Can You Have Multiple Saves in Pokemon Sword & Shield?
It’s 2019, so naturally you’d expect to be able to have multiple save files in your video games. Unfortunately, it’s Pokemon we’re talking about here, and it’s still woefully antiquated and outdated in some aspects, including the number of save files you can keep.
The short answer is, no, you cannot have more than one file in Pokemon Sword & Shield. Just like all the previous entries in the series, you can only maintain one save file, and if you want to start a new game, you’ll need to overwrite your previous save.
We’re not expecting Game Freak to introduce multiple slots in these latest entries via some post-launch patch either, as the series’ track record has proven that Pokemon is pretty set in its ways. With that in mind, if you want to start your journey all over, you’ll need to overwrite your original save file.
Alternatively, you could also just create a new user profile on your Nintendo Switch and restart the game using that profile. That way, you’ll be able to keep your original save and still enjoy the game from the very beginning.
No you cannot, and we’re not expecting that to change anytime soon either.
That’s all you need to know about whether or not you can have multiple saves in Pokemon Sword & Shield. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
