Biomutant
If this cool-looking raccoon-like character wielding a big sword looks familiar to you, it’s because Biomutant was originally announced in 2017, but we really haven’t seen much of the open world, third-person action game until now.
THQ Nordic live-streamed a lengthy portion of the game during Gamescom this week and even though the game seems to be in a weird spot in development, the combat looks brilliant and the developer is promising some pretty customizable options that make each playthrough different from the next.
Everyone plays as the same little raccoon, but you can customize its weight, gender, fur length, and much more with all options affecting the gameplay.
A heavier character will be slower but will cause more damage for example. And a lighter character will be faster but damage output will be lower –it’s quite ambitious.
We still don’t have a release date for Biomutant, but if it does actually end up releasing this year, we cannot wait to get our hands on it.
You can read more info about the game and watch the gameplay demo right here.
Ghostrunner
Ghostrunner is a brand-new IP that comes from One More Level Studio and basically looks like a mix of Mirror’s Edge and Katana Zero, but in a modern game engine with amazing visuals and high-octane gameplay.
The initial reveal trailer was shown during Opening Night Live earlier this week, and we got a quick glimpse at some of the fast-paced action that the game is sporting.
We see the protagonist running along walls and performing slick and quick kills and we also see that he will die in one hit, similar to other twitchy action titles.
It looks like a beautiful blend of a bunch of games and we cannot wait to see more. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait a while for this one as it’s coming sometime in 2020.
Disintegration
The announcement trailer for Disintegration at Gamescom wasn’t the first time that we heard about this title that comes from the co-creator of Halo, but it is the first time that we’ve seen gameplay and boy does it look impressive.
A mix of a first-person shooter and a strategy game, Disintegration has you riding on a gravity motorcycle of sorts that is heavily armed with both offensive and defensive abilities.
Not only will you be out on the field yourself, but you will get to control your units and troops on the ground, configuring their actions and moves.
There is a planned single-player campaign, a PvP multiplayer mode, and several other online game modes, which is very exciting.
You can watch the 10-minute gameplay demo from Gamescom right here that shows off story details, gameplay mechanics, and much more.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
To be quite honest, I don’t think most people were super-hyped for this next iteration in the Mario & Sonic sports franchise, but as soon as Sega revealed that there would be nostalgic 2D events in the game, the internet, including myself, went wild.
The trailer shows Daisy pile-driving Knuckles over her shoulder in a wrestling match of sorts and that’s all I needed to see to bust out my wallet and head over to the pre-order page.
There are 10 events that can be played in this classic mode, including the 100-meter sprint. So if you wanted to see a pixelated version of Sonic and Mario racing it out, then you can now do that.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 launches exclusively for the Switch on Nov. 4.
Death Stranding
Death Stranding got three new trailers during Gamescom 2019 and let’s face it, we still really don’t know what this game is all about, but we did get some gameplay of the main protagonist, Sam, using the bathroom (putting it nicely) and shaking the BB to quiet it down.
These little things sound strange and random in text, but once you see the game in motion in the trailer above, you have it admit that the game itself looks quite impressive.
We also got to see Sam interacting with a character that uses the likeness of Geoff Keighley himself and we meet a new character named Mama (it’s so Kojima).
There were tons of other story elements shown off by Kojima during the big event and you can read about everything right here.
And while we wait for the release of Death Stranding on Nov. 8, let’s hope that Kojima actually gives us a glimpse of some combat or something along those lines.
Are there any other games shown during Gamescom 2019 that caught your attention? Shout ’em out down below if so! We would love to hear your thoughts.
