Construction is obviously a huge part of Tropico 6, but you won’t be able to build a sprawling metropolis without power. Here’s how to get electricity in Tropico 6.

First, you are going to need to build a building that generates electricity. Depending on the era you started in, this is probably going to be the power plant.

The power plant allows you to use different energy sources, but we recommend using coal. It’s not the cleanest energy source but it is a resource that will be plentiful around your island (via mines) and provides plenty of jobs for your Tropicans.

But there are other options, like wind turbines, solar power plants, and nuclear power plants. Different buildings give different levels, and the radius of their energy field (as in, how far the energy goes) also differs between sources.

For example, the power plant projects further than wind turbines. Wind turbines are still effective, of course, but you’ll want to keep this in mind as you set up your city. It might be a cheaper energy source, but it doesn’t produce as much electricity.

It is worth keeping in mind that if you have a radius that isn’t reaching the buildings you want to power, you can always build a substation that will extend the radius.

That’s pretty much all there is to know about how to get electricity in Tropico 6. Just keep in mind that any of your buildings without electricity are basically inoperable and therefore a waste of space!
