How to Unlock Mewtwo in Smash Bros Ultimate

Recommended Videos

Part of the fun of playing through Smash Bros Ultimate is unlocking all of the game’s characters. Mewtwo is one of the fan favorites this year but unlocking it isn’t that easy. Here’s everything you need to know about how to unlock Mewtwo in Smash Bros Ultimate.

Since Ultimate boasts the biggest roster that the series has ever seen, you’ll have to fight a lot to unlock them all. The famous Pokemon is one of the tricker ones too.

Of course, it’s possible to unlock the game’s roster by simply playing the game’s standard modes, such as Versus. As you play, you’re essentially unlocking a list of characters in a set order, with a new one being awarded every ten minutes. However, since Mewtwo is the 60th character you’ll unlock this way, it might not be the best way of attempting to do so.

You can also unlock Mewtwo by following Fox’s line in Classic Mode. You will have to beat Classic Mode on any difficulty with that character or any of the other’s you unlock as you progress in that line, and Mewtwo is the final one you get. You’ll essentially have to beat Classic Mode eight times to get to Mewtwo.

The line that you’ll need to follow is:

  • Fox
  • Captain Falcon
  • Zero Suit Samus
  • Peach
  • Falco
  • Daisy
  • Bowser Jr.
  • Wolf
  • Mewtwo

Finally, you can also unlock the Pokemon through Smash Bros Ultimate’s World of Light mode. Playing through the single-player mode will see you face each of the characters in the game, and you unlock them for use once you defeat them.

However, you won’t unlock Mewtwo quickly this way either since he crops up in the Dark Mysterious Dimension, with the Wispy Woods Spirit challenge coming just before it.

You’ll get there eventually if you’re planning on playing through World of Light anyway, but don’t expect the Legendary Pokemon to be a character that’s near the beginning.

No matter which way you choose to go about unlocking Mewtwo, you’ll have to have a fair amount of patience.

That’s all there is to know about how to unlock Mewtwo in Smash Bros Ultimate. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our Smash Bros Ultimate wiki guide.

TL;DR

Question: How to do you unlock Mewtwo in Smash Bros Ultimate?

Answer: You can either play World of Light and find Mewtwo in the Dark Mysterious Dimension, play Versus mode until you unlock it, or reach the end of Fox’s Classic Mode line. They’ll all take quite a while, however.
