Connecting Bluetooth Headphones to Xbox One
It’s 2018, and for better or worse, wired headphones are becoming more and more obsolete. Some tech companies have outright dropped default wired headphone capabilities (looking at you, Apple), while others continue to release new pieces of technology that refuse to get rid of the trusty 3.5mm jack (thank you, Samsung). The PS4 and Xbox One fortunately fall into the latter party and thank goodness, because one of these two giants doesn’t allow you to use headphones otherwise. Want to know how to connect bluetooth headphones into Xbox One? We do too, but sadly, the answer is that it just isn’t possible.
Simply put, the Xbox One does not feature bluetooth functionality. It never has and seemingly never will as new and updated Xbox Ones continue to release without the functionality so many have been asking for. Why does the Xbox One not feature bluetooth functionality? There aren’t any real answers out there, or at least nothing more than speculation. What does this mean, though? It means that you can’t connect bluetooth headphones to the Xbox One.
Yes, Sony’s PS4 allows it (through the use of bluetooth dongles and more), but other than PC, you won’t find a standard current-gen console capable of connecting to headsets using bluetooth. Oddly enough, the Nintendo Switch skipped out on this function too. Maybe bluetooth isn’t as popular as it seems.
For now, the only way to connect headphones to the console is through the controller itself. If you have a controller with a 3.5mm port, simply plug your headphones in and you’re all set. If you don’t, and there are Xbox One controllers that don’t have this port, then you’re going to need to purchase the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. This will cost you roughly $25. Once you’ve got that, simply plug it in to the bottom of the controller and then plug your headphones into the adapter.
